The year 2023 marked the exciting return of Oceans Week Mexico, as part of the United Nations' World Oceans Day celebrations. This unique event brought together an impressive array of experts and leaders from the private, public, and civil society sectors, with a clear objective: to highlight challenges, inspire innovative solutions and projects, and unite decision-makers in Mexico and beyond.
It was a truly exceptional experience that combined keynote lectures, sustainable culinary delights, soul-stirring music, and the presence of leading scientific and artistic minds. But what was most inspiring was the participation of all those with a keen environmental awareness, who enthusiastically joined this exciting collaborative effort in Mexico.
Oceans Week Mexico was not just an event, but a vibrant movement that ignited passions and fostered enriching dialogue around the preservation of our oceans. It served as a beacon of hope, reminding us that together we can make a difference and forge a brighter, more sustainable future for generations to come.

INTERNATIONAL MESOAMERICAN REEF DAY
The Mesoamerican Reef System is one of the world's most important marine ecosystems, stretching over 1,000 km from the Yucatán Peninsula to Honduras. It is home to more than 500 species of fish and 65 species of stony coral, making it a critical habitat for marine biodiversity. However, this reef system, like many others around the world, is threatened by various human activities, including overfishing, pollution, and climate change.
To address these challenges and celebrate the importance of the Mesoamerican Reef System, a group of organizations has come together to organize a forum on regenerative aquaculture in the blue economy. The forum will take place over three days in March at the Mia Reef Hotel in Isla Mujeres, Mexico.
The event is being organized to commemorate the anniversary of the Tulum Agreement, signed in 2015 by Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras to protect and conserve the Mesoamerican Reef System . The forum is being organized by several organizations, including INAPESCA (National Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture) , Mares Naturalia , Restore Coral, Mares de México , and Fundación Mía Sustentable .
The forum will bring together stakeholders from across the country, including government officials, scientists, NGOs, and representatives from the private sector, to develop a regenerative aquaculture strategy for the Maya Reef. This strategy will align with the Implementation Strategy for a Sustainable Ocean Economy in Mexico, which aims to promote sustainable economic development while protecting the ocean and its resources.

INTERNATIONAL FORUM ON BLUE ECONOMY AND GROWTH
The Second International Forum on Blue Economy and Growth is presented as an unparalleled meeting point, where experts, business leaders, academics, and policymakers converge with a common goal: to explore the economic challenges and opportunities inherent in our relationship with the oceans. This highly relevant event serves as a platform to foster collaboration and promote sustainable practices that guarantee both economic growth and the conservation of precious marine resources.
In a global context where sustainability has become an imperative priority, the Forum highlights a series of fundamental themes that address the most critical aspects of the blue economy and growth. From the decarbonization of ports and maritime transport to exploring the intersections between the economy and energy, tourism and circularity, fisheries and aquaculture, as well as ecosystem regeneration and innovation, each theme promises to generate constructive debates and tangible proposals.
The Forum's meticulously designed program offers a comprehensive and enriching agenda encompassing a wide range of plenary sessions, panel discussions, roundtables, and keynote presentations. Each session is designed to provide an insightful and holistic view of the challenges and opportunities presented by the blue economy and growth today.
Through the exploration of these issues and the active participation of leading opinion leaders and experts in the field, the Forum aims to lay the groundwork for concerted and collaborative action in the search for innovative and sustainable solutions. More than just an event, the Forum represents a collective commitment to driving progress and development in harmony with our oceans and their ecosystems.
