At Mares de México, we develop projects that combine science, art, and community to protect our oceans. From documentaries and expeditions to conservation campaigns and environmental education, each initiative stems from a love for the sea and the urgent need to care for it. Here, we bring together the stories, research, and efforts that seek to inspire real change and connect more people with the marine life that surrounds us.

Environmental Education.png

Our environmental education program originated at the Technology Pavilion, the heart of Mares de México. Each year, this space welcomes over 70,000 people who participate in immersive experiences designed to raise awareness about the importance of the ocean and its conservation. The funds raised at the pavilion not only sustain this experience but also support other educational projects throughout the country, bringing knowledge, inspiration, and action to coastal and urban communities that are part of the future of the sea.

Conferences

Our lecture program offers tailor-made talks designed to inspire and raise awareness about the most important issues concerning nature and the sea. Through the personal experiences of our contributors, unique expeditions, and stories from the depths of the ocean, we aim to connect audiences with the realities of marine ecosystems and motivate actions that generate positive change.

Objectives 1_edited.jpg
Science_edited.png

We conduct scientific research to understand marine ecosystems, keystone species, and their relationship with human communities. This work not only guides our conservation strategies but is also available as a service to organizations and projects that require accurate, evidence-based data for decision-making and the design of conservation policies.

A socio-environmental study that, through interviews, identifies how manatees and communities in the Greater Mexican Caribbean interact to recognize threats and generate protection tools for the species and its environment.

Project that seeks to identify the gestation, rearing and feeding areas of the giant manta ray (Mobula birostris) in the Revillagigedo Archipelago, Banderas Bay and Gulf of California, using satellite telemetry, underwater ultrasound and laser photogrammetry to learn about its key habitats.

Study using satellite technology to identify the movements and aggregation zones of sharks in the Gulf of California and the Mexican Pacific, generating key data on their spatio-temporal ecology for their conservation.

Monitoring service and baseline studies that allow evaluation of the initial state of ecosystems and their evolution over time, identifying opportunities and possible environmental impacts in projects or protected areas

Research focused on the seabed and deep ocean of Mexico in the face of increasing pressure from deep-sea mining. We seek to understand these little-explored ecosystems to generate scientific information that supports their protection and the design of appropriate policies.

Project to assess air quality and pollution in marine-coastal ecosystems in Mexico, generating key data for their protection and management.

From the vibrant heart of Mexico's seas emerges a story where music and conservation converge in a powerful call to protect our oceans.

A production of Mares de México and Fomares, this captivating film, directed by Alonso I. Rodríguez de la Parra in collaboration with Maru Brito and Andy Mann, is based on an original idea by Gabriela Gómez. It tells the story of renowned composer Garth Stevenson, who ventures into the ocean to listen to the ethereal songs of whales and transform these underwater symphonies into a unique musical piece.

Objectives 1_edited.jpg

At Mares de México, we create collaborative spaces so that more people can join us in protecting and celebrating our oceans. Through our calls for proposals, we invite researchers, artists, photographers, filmmakers, communities, and ocean lovers to participate in projects that promote conservation, citizen science, and environmental outreach.

Each call for proposals seeks to connect talent and a passion for the ocean with initiatives that generate a real impact: from scientific expeditions and documentaries to educational campaigns and cultural events. We believe that bringing together different voices and perspectives is key to creating a bluer and more sustainable future.

Adopting one of these plush toys isn't just about taking home a souvenir; it's about joining a mission to protect the ocean and its creatures. Each hammerhead shark that comes into your hands represents research, care, and hope for future generations to continue experiencing the magic of the ocean. It's a hug that connects children with nature and reminds them that they, too, can be heroes of the sea.
