Saving the Queens of the Revillagigedo Archipelago
Winning project of the Seas of Mexico Award 2024 - 2025
The project “ Identification of Gestation, Nursery, and Feeding Areas of Giant Manta Rays (Mobula birostris) ” aims to discover key habitats used by pregnant females in the Revillagigedo Archipelago, Banderas Bay, and the Gulf of California. To achieve this, it will utilize satellite telemetry, underwater ultrasound, and laser photogrammetry.
Led by Dr. Madalena Cabral and supported by Mares de México, the study plans to tag manta rays with satellites and study them in depth. Its findings will be key to protecting these critical areas from threats such as bycatch and could lead to the creation or adjustment of marine protected areas.

What is most valuable is that the Pavilion has forged alliances with government institutions, organizations, and thousands of citizens committed to ocean conservation, promoting educational activities, crafts, and playful experiences that cultivate love and respect for the sea. Today, it proudly welcomes more than 70,000 visitors each year and has become a space built in collaboration with the public, which has not only transformed conservation efforts but also serves as a constant source of learning, inspiration, and action to protect the marine ecosystems that give life to Mexico.
Mares de Mexico Technological Pavilion

+70,000 visitors each year
The Mexico Ocean Technology Pavilion is an innovative project that has been key in funding and promoting scientific, artistic, and conservation initiatives, but above all, it has established itself as a powerful space for environmental education. Thanks to its visionary model, it has helped finance educational programs in various regions of the country, bringing messages of awareness and marine knowledge to communities from the Caribbean to the Gulf of California. Furthermore, the Pavilion has been instrumental in promoting important national and international events such as the International Forum on Sustainable Blue Economy, Mesoamerican Reef Day, and Oceans Week Mexico, as well as leading beach and seabed cleanup campaigns.

Venture into the marine wilderness and discover breathtaking corners of the ocean, from day trips to boat journeys to remote, vibrant destinations. If you're looking for something truly unique, design your perfect expedition with us and experience the ocean like never before. Contact us and start planning your next adventure.

#WHALES OR GAS
Whales or Gas is a campaign created by more than 30 organizations to stop the Saguaro project, which seeks to transport liquefied natural gas through the Gulf of California. This project threatens marine life, especially whales, due to increased noise, the risk of collisions, and spills. The initiative is based on scientific studies and informational materials to raise public awareness about the environmental impact and demand protection for these species.
The campaign promotes actions such as collecting signatures, holding public events, building networks of partner schools and businesses, and creating digital content for social media. Its goal is to halt energy projects that damage marine ecosystems and promote decisions that prioritize wildlife over industrial interests. They invite people to sign petitions, participate in activities, and share information to protect the ocean.

ABOUT US
"I started this project with the hope of doing my part for the seas of Mexico. I deeply believe that every little effort counts and that, together, we can achieve extraordinary things. I have dedicated my life to photographing and documenting our oceans, which has allowed me to witness both their beauty and the challenges they face. I am convinced that you don't need to be a great scientist or a great artist to create meaningful change. It is ordinary people who must raise their voices, demand a better world, and lead by example. This space is designed for the community, and I wholeheartedly invite you to be a part of it. Every day I strive to grow and improve as a human being, although I also have my flaws. I am passionate about sharing my art, my experiences, and giving talks and lectures where we can inspire one another. I invite you to meet my team, as well as the great allies and collaborators who accompany me on this journey. Without them, none of this would be possible."
